Martinez (Pedro) is born in Manoguayabo, Dominican Republic

Pedro Martinez begins his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers then the Montreal Expos, before coming to the Boston Red sox in 1998.* He becomes one of the greatest pitchers in team history, highlighted by a particularly impressive season in 1999.* One of the most popular in Red Sox history, Martinez once asks “What happened with Boston? Do the people eat baseball and drink baseball? It’s unbelievable. I don’t really have the words to describe how good it feels to be a part of it.” He goes on to play for the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies before retiring in 2009.
